The Argentine research base, Esperanza, on the northern tip of the Antarctic peninsula, set a new record temperature of 18.3?C on 6 February, beating the former record of 17.5?C on 24 March 2015, according to Argentina?s national meteorological service (SMN).

For the first time, forecasters from across the Caribbean have been participating in a major international atmospheric and oceanic field campaign, entitled, "Elucidating the Role of Clouds-Circulation Coupling in Climate" (EUREC4A). The field campaign is focused on the areas east and south of Barbados, from 20 January to 20 February 2020.

These phenomena may?be attributable to a northward meandering of the subtropical jet stream over and?around Japan and a persistent positive phase of the Arctic Oscillation.

COMS Retirement Information - Korea Meteorological Administration

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) is going to retire Korea?s first geostationary meteorological satellite, COMS, or Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite. The COMS? meteorological imager (MI) will be terminating its observation on 31 March 2020 at UTC 23:59. The COMS, located at 128.2 ?E and operated by KMA, was launched on 26 June 2010 and started its official operation on 1 April after its 10-month in-orbit test. It was operated two years longer than its seven-year design lifespan and finally, its meteorological mission is about to reach the end-point after nine years of operation history.

Hot and humid weather dominated the Kingdom of Bahrain during the month of October due to the moist easterly winds.?The mean temperature of the month was 32.1?C which is 2.9?C above the long-term normal for October and this goes on record as the highest mean temperatures for the month of October since 1902. The old record was 31.7?C in October 2015.

The World Meteorological Organization is calling on governments to protect radio frequencies allocated to Earth observation services which are vital for weather forecasts and long-term climate change monitoring.?Decisions with major repercussions for Earth exploration, environmental monitoring and meteorological satellite operation will be made at the World Radiocommunication Conference from 28 October ? 22 November 2019.
Papua New Guinea National Weather Service launched Strategic Plan

Mr Roy Mumu, Secretary for the Department of Transport officially launched the National Weather Service?s Strategic Plan (2019-2023).? The launching event is part of the Second Workshop of the CREWS Papua New Guinea Project?s Stakeholders Consultation. The Strategic Plan is the first ever plan for the NWS. It is aligned with Department of Transport Mid-Term Plan 2 and the Government of PN Vision 2050 Statement Pillars of Development, the National Government Mid-Term Development Plan (2018-2022), and the Pacific Island Meteorological Strategy Plan (PIMS) 2017-2026). Mr Mumu congratulated the NWS for the great achievement.
