The mean temperature of the month was 36.1?C which is 2.1?C above the long-term normal for August and this goes on record as the fourth highest mean temperatures for August since 1902. This is the same as August 2015 and exceeded by August 2017 with a record of 36.6?C, August 1998 with a record of 36.5?C, August 2016 with a record of 36.4?C.

During?July 2020, above-normal temperatures?were observed across most of the country whereas; near-normal temperatures were present in the Eastern and Northwestern parts together with Dalaman, Fethiye, Antalya, Hatay, and ?skenderun.
The mean monthly temperature of July 2020 was 25.9 ? C which is 1.4 ?C above the long-term average (1981-2010). The lowest temperature was measured in Ardahan with 6.8?C and the highest temperature was recorded in Cizre with 47.3?C.

The World Meteorological Organization will verify a temperature reading of 54.4?C (130?F), recorded at Death Valley, Caliifornia, on 16 August amid an intense and extensive heatwave on the west coast of the USA . If validated, it would be the highest temperature on Earth since 1931 and third hottest temperature ever recorded on the planet.

He was one of the world?s leading authorities on climate change and the Greenland ice sheet. He fell to his death, aged 68, in one of the many crevasses which have appeared because of melting ice.
